Snapshot of the Australian Grains Industry
GLOBAL TRADE
Australia is a fairly small producer of grains on an international scale, however due to its small population exports from Australia account for a considerable portion of global trade.
QUALITY
Australian grain is segregated firstly in relation to its type (e.g. wheat or oats), then according to its processing and product quality. Quality is defined according to the crop with typical indicators of quality including; grain size, protein content, moisture content and oil content.
REGIONS
Western Australia is generally a large grain exporter, typically exporting between 80-90% of grain production, whereas Eastern Australia is focused on production for domestic consumption.
Grain is more commonly harvested between October and January before being exported between January and April.
